n addition to making for an interesting story, this chapter book is a wonderful resource for any child who is curious about what happens when you break a bone.
T
he story is told in the first person. Kate Larkin explains how she fell while chasing dragonflies one summer day and broke her arm. She recounts her journey, beginning with her emergency room visit, the X-rays that were taken, the setting of the cast, and the initial misery followed by the gradual healing process. Along the way, Kate picks up some very useful facts about bones, which she passes along to the reader in her narrative and in the glossary at the end of the book.
I
especially liked the positive spin: when Kate laments about all of the activities she is unable to engage in while her arm is healing, her grandmother helps her make a

list. And, of course, the book ends on a happy note, showing Kate enjoying a ride on her bike.
