When called on his inattention to what's important to the adults around him, he always insists 'But I'm not daydreaming'. Sarah Garson's sweet story and whimsical drawings portray the reality of the inner world to a creative child. As his teacher and classmates go about their usual school day oblivious to what he sees around him and them, Dan swings through 'the deepest jungle', sails a pirate ship 'far, far away on the wild open seas', frolics with sea folk at the bottom of the ocean, and soars 'with the birds over magical kingdoms ... filled with ferocious beasts, which snarled and roared and gnashed their teeth.' As his dream world spills over into the real one and chases his teacher, Dan just keeps on insisting 'But I am not daydreaming!' Daydreamers young and old will relate to, and cheer on Daydream Dan, a small boy who dreams big.
