When the Louisiana vampire, Queen Sophie-Anne Leclerq, is hurt in a disastrous fire at a vampire hotel, the Las Vegas king sees an opportunity to expand his power. As usual, Sookie Stackhouse, small town waitress, telepath, and friend to the Louisiana vamps, is in the midst of their dangerous coup.

iving in a small town like Bon Temps, Louisiana, Sookie should be able to live the quiet life she loves, but since the vampires came out to the world, her peace of mind is often fractured by being drawn into their problems and politics. On top of that her boyfriend is missing, her household is getting bigger, and she keeps discovering unknown family members. Just when she thinks things couldn't get any more complicated, she meets a fairy who claims to be her great-grandfather. Although he is a prince among the fairies, Sookie can't help but wonder,
what good is a grandfather if he can't take you fishing?

From Dead to Worse
is the latest installment in the
Southern Vampire Mysteries
. Harris began the book with a prologue designed to provide a catch up of background events, but you almost need a cast card and family tree to remind you where everyone fits into her life. Fortunately, just dropping by Bon Temps to visit Sookie is enough to entertain any series fan.
