The ducklings then return home after a day of frolicking at the beach, exhausted and happy. The text is basic and easy to read aloud. 'One duck gurgles. Two ducks whirl. Three ducks burble. Four ducks swirl. Five little ducks dunk undersea. Ducks paddle up now - "Look at me!" Soon ducks shiver. Time for sun! Ducks reach dry land, one by one. Ducks on towels unpack lunch: Clam cakes, jam cakes. Five ducks munch.' The staccato-like text in this book is reminiscent of the language in Nancy Shaw's Sheep in a Jeep. Duck Dunks is a follow-up to Duck Skates. The book is rounded out by pleasing illustrations of the five charming main characters.
