The librarian welcomes them saying: 'Finding books can be fun! / You may choose more than one' and urges each to 'check out the best book for you.' The librarian's enthusiasm reaches out and connects with small groups of the children as she shares her own passion for books and reading about: outer-space, fire-breathing dragons, entomology, recipes, dinosaurs, dog training, and magic tricks. She signs them up for library cards and sends them off with 'books about history, adventure, and mystery - / So many great choices today.' The Best Book to Read is itself a good choice, to communicate to kids the range of subjects - and imaginative excursions - available at any time from a visit to the library. As they get back on the bus, this group of kids concludes, 'From page one to the end, a good book is a friend. / Now we all have the best book to read!'
