I
n this picture book where both animals and trucks are personified, a dump truck gets a lesson in friendship.
A
little blue truck happily beeps his greeting to all of the neighboring farm animals as he drives along the country roads, but an impatient dump truck almost runs a duck off the road. However, when the dump truck gets stuck in the mud, all of the animals, as well as Little Blue Truck, team up to help him, which, of course, changes his attitude when he is rescued.
'"
Thanks, little brother,"
said the Dump to Blue.
"You helped me and they helped you.
Now I see
a lot depends
on a helping hand
from a few good friends!
"'
T
he rhythm of the text is flawless. Parents and preschoolers alike will enjoy reading this book aloud, and learn a little something about helping others in need in the process. Early readers could also benefit from the simple words utilized throughout the story. The illustrations are pleasing and the personified figures expressive.
