This Little Puppy    by Dennis Lee & Nora Hilb Order:  USA  Can Key Porter, 2008 (2008) Hardcover      Reviewed by Hilary Williamson This Little Puppy is another in the Alligator Tales board book series, beautifully illustrated by Nora Hilb, and presenting individual poems by popular Dennis Lee (This Little Puppy is actually a new one by the beloved poet). It does a wonderful job of explaining the needs of a very small dog to a very small child. The small canine is introduced as it's discovered in a box on the sidewalk: 'This little puppy goes bow-wow-WOW. / This little puppy wants to walk right now. / This little puppy says it's time for chow, / And this little puppy needs a home.' Children enthusiastically respond that they'll walk the puppy, they'll feed and care for it ... and they'll give it a home. Young readers will enjoy the repetition and sing out the verses - but parents beware, they're very likely to demand a little puppy of their own right now too!
