ranny Billingsley's
Big Bad Bunny
reminded me in some ways of Margaret Wise Brown's heartwarming classic,
The Runaway Bunny
, but it gives a different slant to the tale of a mother's persistent search for her errant child. And G. Brian Karas' illustrations do an excellent job of portraying that little one's exaggerated perspective of his own role.
A
lternating with scenes of Big Bad Bunny's exploits - like his '
long sharp claws
' going '
Scritch! Scritch! Scritch!
' and '
pointy yellow teeth
' going '
Chomp! Chomp! Chomp!
' - we see Mama Mouse tucking babies into bed in the Mouse House. She kisses Little Tippy goodnight, then Little Flurry - in a delightful contrast between a calm bedtime scene and Big Bad Bunny's Rambo on a rampage. But then Mama Mouse finds Baby Boo-Boo's bed empty - where can he be? She races into the forest in search of the missing mouse - and finds him too. Naturally.
L
ittle ones will revel in this tale of a naughty mouse with big dreams, will cheer Big Bad Bunny's adventures, but will also be reassured when he's tucked safely into bed alongside his siblings.
