The story opens a few days before Christmas vacation, as narrator Wiley proudly demonstrates to classmates uses of his Superblob 3.5 formula, which can be sculpted into any form. Then the cook, Vera, explodes from the kitchen, where students discover 'a rancid carton of eggnog' has come to tentacled life. When Vera tries to trap it with Superblob, it morphs into all kinds of scary monsters (the worst a giant math book) - and escapes. At Grampa's house, the holiday spirit manifests in the strangest ways. Wiley and Grampa watch yuletide yuckfests like I Saw a Mummy Kissing Santa Claus, while Gramma bakes cookies - and screams. A 'mutant blob of eggnog' morphs into the shape of their cat Merle, raids the fridge and attacks, leaving the house in a shambles. Then the Piggly Jiggly store is robbed and Gramma is a suspect (the giant phlegmball stole her appearance). How will Wiley cope? After a song sends the sinister slime into flight at the big school musical, they lure it to a Christmas compound with an eggnog extravaganza, where a supervillain's pernicious plan is exposed in its Grinch-like glory and defeated by a caroling car in a crumby ending.
