Mother Goose
rhyme anthology book at our house is categorized into rhymes about seasons, animals, children, colors, etc.. This picture book,
Mother Goose Numbers on the Loose
, aimed at the preschool set, is a compilation of Mother Goose rhymes containing numbers. Many were familiar; others were new to me.
A
ll of the numbers are highlighted in purple, which will aid a child with number recognition. Here's an example of these numerical rhymes: '
1,2,3,4,5, / I caught a hare alive: / 6,7,8,9,10, / I let him go again.
' And '
1 for anger, / 2 for mirth, / 3 for a wedding, / 4 for a birth, / 5 for rich, / 6 for poor, / 7 for a witch, / I can tell you no more.
'
T
he drawings are bold, exaggerated and whimsical. The illustrated characters - both animals and humans - are highly animated and energetic. This well-done book would be a good addition to both a home and a preschool library.
