ynthia Rylant has released another book in the
Mr. Putter & Tabby
collection, a series of early reader chapter books.
I
n this story, Mr. Putter has eaten too many jelly rolls made by his neighbor, Mrs. Teaberry (21 of them, to be exact). Usually, he and Tabby sleep like logs, but tonight, Mr. Putter's stomach is grumbly. The two of them wander the neighborhood, marveling at the beautiful evening stars and other nocturnal sights, until they run into Mrs. Teaberry and her dog, Zeke, who is suffering from the same symptoms as Mr. Putter. The four spend a delightful evening together while Mr. Putter and Zeke recover from their grumbly tummies. Of course, Mr. Putter graciously accepts Mrs. Teaberry's offer of even more food the very next morning.
W
ith its whimsical illustrations,
Mr. Putter & Tabby See the Stars
makes a fine addition to the series. It is a good book for beginning readers to practice their skills, and is just the right length.
