ne Christmas Eve, Nicholas and his
Abuelo
gaze out at a young apple tree, standing in the snow. After Nicholas sees a bird tumble off a branch, he rushes outside and determinedly makes his way through the winter storm to rescue it.
A
buelo helps him care for the red cardinal, telling his grandson of his own grandfather's saying: '
When you do a good thing, good will come back to you.
' The bird recovers and on Christmas Day, Nicholas releases it outside. All winter, he watches the apple tree and is sorry that the cardinal does not return ... but years later, people come from far and near every Christmas Eve to see something special in that apple tree. Can you guess what it is?
