his lovable picture book tells the story of a little girl who is packing to visit her grandparents for her first overnight trip. She has a wonderful time during the day, eating Grandma's jam cookies and playing dress up. It's only when nighttime arrives that she begins to feel a little homesick. Grandma soothes her granddaughter as only grandmas can do, with a story about her first overnight trip to her own grandmother's house and about a very special quilt.
I
am a big fan of Mary Ann Hoberman's work, whose rhythmic meter is always in sync with her lyrical language:
'
I put on pajamas, my most favorite pair,
but still I feel funny and so does my bear.
Then Grandma sits down in an old rocking chair
And says it will all be all right.

he lovely watercolor drawings are simple yet vibrant. A wonderful touch is the sepia-toned illustrations that Grandma shows her granddaughter when they are talking about her own childhood. This rhyming picture book geared toward the preschool set is a nice selection for either parents or grandparents to read together with young children.
