Ella is a little piglet known for being resourceful, once even retrieving a frog with a spaghetti strainer and curtain rod.

On her fourth birthday, Ella receives the most wonderful present: an umbrella with a beautiful fluffy cloud design. Ella can't get enough of this umbrella. She takes it everywhere she goes, but more often than not, she wreaks havoc with it, breaking lamps, disrupting show-and-tell, and knocking over jars at the grocery store.

She goes a little too far one day by bringing it to ballet class, though her teacher warns her that the umbrella cannot be brought to the recital. Undaunted, Ella uses her problem solving skills to incorporate her umbrella into the dance recital: she turns it into a tutu.

Many children who have attachments to objects may recognize themselves in Ella. Even if not, children will still enjoy watching Ella get into one situation after another, and will admire her ingenuity. The book has lively and vivid drawings by seasoned illustrator Cushman. Look for an especially cute picture of a frog in a tutu.
