da May's best friend moves out of town leaving Ida to face the fourth grade alone. Stacey Merriweather with her crayon smile is new in school, but Ida doesn't want another best friend. Best friends move away leaving you alone.
J
enna Drews, the daughter of the PTA President, takes a dislike to Ida and makes sure everyone knows it. To be friends with Jenna you can't be friends with Ida. Stacey is nice to everyone, but Jenna takes her under her wing and makes sure she has no time for anyone else.
S
tacey is as interesting as she is friendly, but Ida is sure she lies. She begins writing anonymous notes to Stacey, signing them Cordelia, and before long Stacy answers them. The girls become secret pen pal friends, but will they ever become real friends?
A
wary Ida learns to accept friendship again. Funny situations and an appealing heroine with a real problem make this a good first chapter book for early readers.
