H
arry is a very determined '
white dog with black spots
', whose adventures my kids and I enjoyed in
Harry the Dirty Dog
and
No Roses for Harry
. I find
Harry and the Lady Next Door
to be even better. This particular version is '
An I Can Read Book
' aimed at children just beginning to make sense of books on their own. Harry gets into trouble once more because, though he loved all the neighbours, '
He did not love the lady next door.
' You see, she sang high and loud and it made Harry's ears hurt. And he wasn't the only one - her singing disturbed the peanut man, the firemen, and even the local cats.
N
ow Harry is the ultimate problem solver and he goes to great lengths to fix this one, each attempt sending him to the doghouse once more. Our Harry gives the lady next door examples of sounds that he likes ... by rounding up a herd of cows, redirecting the Firemen's Band, and conveying frogs in a watering can. The lady next door '
went on singing. She sang higher and louder than ever.
' But just by chance, Harry's perseverance finally has the desired results, and it's because the lady next door turns out to be a '
brave
' lady.
H
arry and the Lady Next Door
is a hilarious story, but don't just leave it to your beginning reader; sneak a peek yourself. It's great fun!
