Hiroe Nakata's soft watercolor-and-ink illustrations are attention-getters for children, complementing the messages that Dennis Shealy inspires in the words Please and Thank You, God. The book relishes the big and small things that children are grateful for as they romp and play - 'I thank God for each morning - and for the earth and sky. So I ask You, please, dear God, don't make me go inside!' Thanks are given for pancakes, curly red hair, and especially 'for the sandwiches Mom makes without the crust.' There are Pleases in asking that feet be shown the right path. And more Thank You God for friends and teachers at school. It closes, 'Thank You, God for teaching us the way ... each and every day.'
