he sounds of snow and winter echo across the pages in this expertly illustrated picture book.
W
hen the book opens, the only sounds are that of sleep: a snore, a purr, and a hush all over the neighborhood. In the morning, a snowstorm has arrived, and soon, the sounds of snow removal can be heard: the '
swoosh slush slush smoosh
' and the '
crash crush clank
' of the salt trucks; the '
chug chug whoosh
' of the snow blower; and eventually, the '
jingle clink clinky jingly
' of the school bus's arrival.
W
hat sets this book apart is the caliber of the artwork. The hushed dusty blue tones and the muted white snowflakes are a visual delight. Johnson has truly captured the tranquility, beauty, and, yes, warmth, of a snowy day.
