T
his cute picture book counsels that you are what you eat, literally.
B
enny hates vegetables but he loves burgers so much that, after consuming nothing but burgers for an unspecified amount of time, he eventually turns into one. He still has a voice and legs, though, which come in handy when he is trying to outrun the neighborhood dogs, cows, and boys.
B
enny's mother finally rescues him and, to cure him, feeds him a diet of vegetables. Not yet having learned his lesson that you can get too much of a good thing, Benny subsists on nothing but vegetables and eventually, he turns into a carrot, as a bunny rabbit eyes him hungrily.
T
he illustrations are bright and playful. Benny's exaggerated form is reminiscent of Charlie Brown with his round head and burger-shaped body. This book is fun and contains a subtle lesson: variety is the spice of life.
