An underwater camera washes ashore and is found by a young beachcomber. He takes the film to a camera store where it is developed into snapshots of underwater paradises with ocean creatures who lead unusual lives.

Each snapshot has its own story waiting to be discovered. A wind-up fish joins a school of live fish. An octopus reads to his family in an underwater living room and a sea turtle carries a plethora of shellfish on his back.

Best of all are the photos of children everywhere holding up snapshots they've found. The boy uses a magnifying glass to follow photo inside photo. At last he takes a photo of himself holding a snapshot which holds all the past snapshots. He throws the camera back into the ocean where it can be found - like a note in a bottle - by another child far, far away.

Wiesner's detailed illustrations are fantastic. Every time the reader looks through this wordless book, they'll find new richness in the layering of underwater fantasies. This beautiful book will be loved by adults as well as children.
