Rock-a-Baby Band is just the picture book to get them going, with its upbeat images of ten babies rocking in rhythm. You can even sing along with a cheerful CD ('performed by Peggo and Paul with the Peggosus Band') that comes with the book. I took my kids to a toddler music program when they were young, where I saw how responsive they and their peers were to different rhythms, and how much they enjoyed trying different instruments. They wield all kinds in this book from the more traditional drums and maracas to a hairbrush and everything in the kitchen but the sink! If you have a toddler at home, get hold of this book, play the CD, open the kitchen drawer to find a suitable instrument, and 'shake it, rock it, roll it' together.
