No pesky sister because she's away at camp for three weeks. A newly built tree house in the backyard. And playing on the town's best baseball team. What boy could ask for anything more? That is until Jeremy Ross moves in down the street and ruins everything. The two boys become enemies and the summer begins to look bleak. Then one day after talking at breakfast, a sympathetic father breaks out an old family recipe designed to get rid of foes just like Jeremy Ross. The recipe - Enemy Pie. After watching his father sift, stir, and bake, our hero is confused because the ingredients don't include earthworms, rocks, or dirt. Even so he trusts his father and the recipe, even when it starts to smell delicious (which his father says is just a decoy smell). It turns out that the tricky, terrible part of making Enemy Pie work is having to play with your enemy for the day, in order to lure him to the pie. After a day of playing with Jeremy Ross though, things aren't working out quite as planned. The day has been filled with fun on the trampoline, boomerang lessons, water balloons, cards in the secret tree house, and a favorite dinner of macaroni and cheese. At the end of the day, when it's time to serve up the enemy pie to Jeremy Ross, there are some big decisions to be made. Derek Munson's Enemy Pie offers up valuable and tasty sounding advice about the difficulties of making new friends. It also shows that sometimes relationships - and pies - aren't quite what they seem.
