t first glance, it's a simple counting book in board book format, but celebrated artist Tom Slaughter has included subtleties that make his

more interesting than the average counting book.
F
irst, the number represented factors into each carefully chosen picture in more than just the number of objects. The two pairs of glasses each have two lenses and two earpieces, while the five flowers have each five petals, and the eight beachballs each have eight sections.
T
he art itself is bold, incorporating a variety of shapes. This bright addition to the repertoire of kids' counting books is aimed at ages 2 to 5, and covers numbers 1 to 10.
