The cover image reflects the intensity of feeling that any mother has for her newborn infant. It begins with an image of Joseph leading Mary on a donkey: 'Little one, / we knew you'd come. / We hoped. / We dreamed. / We watched for you. / We counted the days till you were due. / We waited. How we longed for you, / And the day that you were born.' It continues with the parents lovingly preparing for the birth, and reflects their joy - and that of a myriad of creatures in the stable - when it happens. Then, 'every year, we remember you, / Our miracle child, our dreams come true. / Oh, how we thank Heaven for you, / And the day that you were born.' Little One, We Knew You'd Come is both an ode to Christmas, and a reminder of how much parents celebrate their children on all their birthdays. Young readers will appreciate this lovely re-telling of the Christmas story, as well as the reminder of how much they themselves were - and are - treasured.
