I
ris and Walter are best friends. When Walter's favorite cousin Howie visits for the weekend, Walter wants Iris to like him, too. Iris tries, but Howie finds fault with everything she does. Instead of trying to win him over, Iris goes home. Her understanding family soothe her and let her know that it is okay to dislike Howie.
I
ris deals with sharing her best friend and allows him to spend time with his cousin without her. She is ready to be friends again with Walter when Howie goes home.
C
hildren in kindergarten through second grade will enjoy a story that relates to happenings they face in their own lives. Christine Davenier's illustrations add a great deal to the story by giving the reader facial expressions and actions not mentioned in the text.
