It's So Unfair!    by Pat Thomson & Jonathan Allen Order:  USA  Can Andersen, 2006 (2006) Hardcover      Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Like good friends everywhere, Cat's farmyard comrades take his side after 'BANG went the door and / swish went the broom' and they heard Mrs Prout say, 'OUT, CAT, OUT!' As more and more of them rally around, they echo Cat's 'that's so unfair', but is it really? I love the expressions of indignation Jonathan Allen has drawn on all the animals' faces on their friend's behalf. And Pat Thomson unfolds the story perfectly, revealing each new feline misdemeanour gradually as more and more farmyard friends (hens, ducks, turkeys, sheep, sheepdog, pigs, horse, and goats) congregate to take Cat's side. They decide to tell Farmer, and he says 'Poor Cat!' too - till he finds out what Cat did to his favorite chair. Then it's 'OUT, CAT, OUT!' once more! It's tons of fun, and kids will empathize with the misbehaving feline and with Cat's concerned friends, but also might learn a small lesson about getting the full story before jumping to conclusions.
