T
his is a board book edition of a companion to the acclaimed
Goodnight Moon
. The author's poetic style and the illustrator's familiar scenes convey the same charm and subtle comfort as the original. However
My World
, lacking the focus of the slowly darkening bedroom of
Goodnight Moon
, is more of a guidebook into all the nooks and crannies of the small rabbit's life and family ... the bunny's
world
.
I
t begins '
The fire burns. The pages turn
' in familiar primary colors. Then we're given the little bunny's point of view of home with chair and slippers, teddy bear and pyjamas, toy car and all. This time it was nice to see Daddy (as well as Mother) in different scenes - at bedtime, breakfast, and in the bathroom, at the garage and fishing, enjoying a family meal, and lounging on the front porch.
I
love the ending as the small bunny tells us he or she can swing '
Right over the world
' and then whimsically wonders '
My tree. / The bird's tree. / How many stripes / On a bumble bee?
'
