Sookie Stackhouse, the mind-reading barmaid in Bon Temps, Louisiana, is back with a new adventure and a new boyfriend. Sookie is called to New Orleans by the Queen of the Vampires and while she's there she plans to clean out her cousin Hadley's apartment. Hadley, a new vampire and the queen's lover, was recently murdered. Now that she is definitely dead, Sookie is her heir.

The queen is anxious for Sookie to go through Hadley's things. Others will do anything to prevent it, including killing the messenger, a young demon, who goes to Bon Temps to request Sookie's visit.

Harris decides it's time for Sookie to have a best friend with a gift of her own. Amelia, who owns the classy apartment building where Hadley resided, is a gifted young witch who sometimes oversteps her budding powers. Amelia has all the characteristics required to make an entertaining side-kick for future Southern Vampire mysteries.

Sookie Stackhouse fans should also be on the lookout for a TV pilot based on the series later this year. It will be written and directed by Alan Ball, the creator of HBO's Six Feet Under and should be a hoot.
