T
he Dreadful Doings of Jelly Belly
is one of a series of board books based on Dennis Lee's addictive verses. In this one, two small children appear to struggle with catering to the needs of a huge baby, Jelly Belly.
I
t begins, '
Jelly Belly bit / With a big fat bite.
' The monster babe goes on the fight a very small dog over a bone, to scowl (while the kids use a stepladder to comb his wisp of hair), and to yell while they play with blocks till they all fall down. Nora Hilb's cheerful illustrations brighten up Jelly Belly's doings.
I
t's a cute board book with a funny situation for little ones to follow, and rhymes for them to enjoy. And don't miss the others in the series, especially
Alligator Pie
.
