The poet's lines in this version are enhanced by Nora Hilb's engaging illustrations of kids and mini-alligarors interacting over pie, stew, and soup. It begins - 'Alligator pie, alligator pie, / If I don't get some I think I'm gonna die' - with a picture of a girl racing after a bunch of small green alligators who in turn are absconding with a large green pie (it's topped with a cherry and another mini alligator). In fact, these little green guys run off with all kinds of things, in exchange for the foods they leave behind. There are several board books in this delightfully silly series of rhymed Alligator Tales all ready to enchant yet another generation.
