A
s every mother knows, a trip to the grocery store with a baby is risky business - keeping baby happy and distracted is the key to a successful shopping trip.
I
n this charming book, Mama tries to entertain Bebé during a trip to the
supermercado
, while averting disaster as Bebé almost knocks over a jar of chocolate-covered pickles. Finally they settle on a box of animal crackers, and Bebé ends his wonderful adventure with a balloon.
T
he book is a wonderful introduction to Spanish for young children, as each verse contains Spanish words presented in an understandable context: '
Mama wears a dress - a vestido bonito. It blocks Bebé's view as she steers the carrito. But the she bends down to a near-the-floor shelf. Mama's disappeared! Time to reach things himself.
'
T
he illustrations are bright and wildly cartoonish, and every situation is highlighted with exaggerated intensity. This is not a book with a message or moral lesson; it's just plain fun. The Spanish glossary with definitions and pronunciation is a helpful addition to this delightful book.
