Kaszuba Locke Golden Books® offers a story and paint book all-in-one, in this soft-cover edition of The First Christmas, aimed at children three-years old and up. Eight colors, a tray, and a paint brush are attached to the cover of the book, which features a color picture of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. The birth of Jesus is retold with simple text lines above black-outlined images. It begins, 'In the town of Nazareth lived a woman named Mary', followed by the angel's visit to Mary and Joseph, and the trip to the stable in Bethlehem. The last page appropriately ends with 'This is the story of the first and greatest Christmas.' Golden Books® gives a child the chance to be creative in painting colors for the images to wear. The book includes Painting Tips, and instructions for the washable paint. I recommend that the young painter be guided by an older child or adult, and that the paint mixing and application be done on a covered surface.
