No jumping. No spilling. No having fun! He tries, he really does, but at the party, his relatives keep reminding him to stop whatever he is doing. Don't hold your nose when the food comes! Don't throw olives in the water glass! Don't use the fancy soap! But it's Robert who has the last laugh, or at least, the last dance, with Great-Gran Sadie. When everyone yells at him to stop dancing around in his silly way, Great-Gran Sadie asks him to do it again, and then spends the rest of the evening playing and dancing with Robert. This is a charming book about the playfulness of children and the fact that, basically, kids will be kids. It takes a wise old lady to recognize this and to allow Robert to be who he is. G. Brian Karas' simple and almost childlike illustrations perfectly complement Cari Best's story about a child trying to fit in to a grown up world.
