T
wo Dogs Swimming
is dedicated by Lynn Reiser to '
the original water dogs - Stubbs (a.k.a. Whistle) and Loki (a.k.a. Spot). Their true story.
' Using watercolors, Reiser brings two dogs to life as they run, jump, and chase sticks on the lawn bordering a nearby pond.
W
histle would swim across the pond, paddling his front paws and kicking with his back paws. Spot would step into the pond, but he would only kick his front paws, leaving his back paws touching the bottom of the water! It was supposed to be a swimming race, but when Whistle turned around to swim back to the other end of the pond, Spot had turned around too, and was already back at the beginning.
H
ow Spot learns to swim is the key to the story. The author has written other picture stories about dogs, such as
Ten Puppies
.
Two Dogs Swimming
is a charming account of two canine friends.
