T
odd Parr does it again. In
The Peace Book
, he gives us an inclusive, multicultural perspective on
peace
from a child's eye, in vibrant colors. It begins '
Peace is making new friends
', showing kids (in all hues) holding hands.
P
eace is many things in this bright picture book, from '
keeping the water blue for all the fish
' to '
reading all different kinds of books
', '
giving shoes to someone who needs them
' (that caterpillar certainly did!), '
watching it snow
', and (my favorite) '
having enough pizza in the world for everyone
'. It ends, '
Peace is wishing on a star
', followed by '
Peace is being who you are
' (with faces in every color of the rainbow, and a delightful variety of hair and hat styles).
T
his is Todd Parr's best yet. It celebrates diversity, the environment, community, harmony, compassion, and charity. The book's cheerful, hopeful messages will resonate with adults, as well as the kids who read
The Peace Book
with them.
