Their new story started The Day I Swapped My Dad for Two Goldfish (literally). After a while, we begin to wonder if the young (anti-)hero and his sister will ever get their Dad back again. There are all kinds of kids involved, all kinds of households (what's the 'Queen of Melanesia' doing visiting Patti's?), and some pretty amazing swaps. They involve an electric guitar, a gorilla mask, a white rabbit named Galveston, and lots of walking. The object of the quest is a very oblivious paper-reading Dad - who's finally found eating a carrot and surrounded by chicken wire. Neil Gaiman delivers his usual riotous fun, conveyed via Dave McKean's brilliant, quirky illustrations, and starring two siblings who are so real that I recognize them from my own childhood. Gaiman's 'Afterword' explains the source of the story (something his son Mikey said), and as an extra treat, you can hear him reading it aloud on the enclosed CD.
