(literally). After a while, we begin to wonder if the young (anti-)hero and his sister will ever get their Dad back again.

here are all kinds of kids involved, all kinds of households (what's the '
Queen of Melanesia
' doing visiting Patti's?), and some pretty amazing swaps. They involve an electric guitar, a gorilla mask, a white rabbit named Galveston, and lots of walking. The object of the quest is a very oblivious paper-reading Dad - who's finally found eating a carrot and surrounded by chicken wire.

eil Gaiman delivers his usual riotous fun, conveyed via Dave McKean's brilliant, quirky illustrations, and starring two siblings who are so real that I recognize them from my own childhood. Gaiman's '
Afterword
' explains the source of the story (something his son Mikey said), and as an extra treat, you can hear him reading it aloud on the enclosed CD.
