Finding Meridian: W.I.T.C.H. #3    adapted by Elizabeth Lenhard Order:  USA  Can Volo, 2004 (2004) Paperback Read an Excerpt     Reviewed by Hilary Williamson Will, Irma, Taranee, Cornelia and Hay Lin (the W.I.T.C.H. team) are back in Heatherfield, adjusting to their new powers (and to working together) after their friend Elyon's disappearance. As usual the text is book-ended by thrilling color comics that kickstart the imagination and set the scene for this and the next episode. The girls squabble as they practice their new powers (which they find 'fabulous and awful, thrilling and scary'), creating mayhem at a construction site. Hay Lin mourns her grandma's death, Will still suffers angst over her mom's involvement with her history teacher, and Irma's speculation that their math teacher is a monster from Metamoor get her and Hay Lin in hot water. After an angry talking book from Elyon's basement disgorges the 'Seal of Phobos', the five pass through a portal to Meridian in Metamoor. Unfortunately they're expected and have to fight their way home. But they don't all make it, setting the scene for more thrills in #4, The Fire of Friendship.
