Mom is not in the picture - could be working or simply shopping. Michael Hays' illustrations paint warmth and love into the day's events. It begins 'On Saturday, with Mom away, / Dad and I work - then we play.' We see father and son making games out of chores - from 'railroading' the rugs to dusting the dog and dunking the dishes. After work comes play - hitting balls in the park, an 'action flick', a snack, and 'a long, long walk' and quiet talk. Kevin tells us 'I love being with my dad; / he's the best friend a guy ever had.' Though the verse is basic, the feelings that Kevin and His Dad's text and pictures convey are powerful.
