One Sunday, Fernando and Grandpa Félix decide to go to San Vicente. The whole family packs into the car, along with a delicious picnic lunch. As they approach the town they see kites flying in the sky. It's the annual kite festival!

Fernando wants to participate but there are on kites for sale. What can they do? They buy bamboo strips, and scrounge string, paper, crayons, and even Band-Aids. Grandpa and Fernando make a kite together. They fly it in the festival and deal with problems as they arise - as Grandpa says 'if you don't risk an egg, you can't get a chicken.'

The Kite Festival is a lovely story about an extended family having fun together and passing on wisdom from elder to younger. Grandpa Félix even shares detailed instructions for making a hexagonal kite at the back of the book.
