Tales of demons, evil versus good, battles for dominance, are not usually my cup of tea. Boy, after reading Takedown, has my taste for tea changed. This is a fast moving, highly pitched, breathtaking novel, written to keep the reader on the edge of their seat through each page. I had not read the previous book that led up to this one and was sorry I hadn't - not because the narrative didn't catch me up on what had happened in Driven, but because I missed what I am sure is an equally good story.

Long Island Detective Gavin Pierce defeated a deadly adversary in Driven, only to find that the demon still exists. This leads Gavin to a showdown in a professional boxing ring that will leave you gasping. A giant land tortoise, destruction of a house by a cement truck, a gathering of pastors who drink seltzer water, an unborn child that wants to be born early - life in the fast (and fantastic) lane.

The characterizations are realistically written and the dialogue between Gavin and his partner Chris speaks of everyday life. Krogan is the embodiment of evil. And Gavin knows he needs more than his normal human skills to persevere against such an adversary. Takedown reads quickly because the reader is anxious to see what comes next. It's hard to put down.
