I
love the large format and the colorful comics. And the stories aren't bad either, especially the first, Lemony Snicket's delightful interpretation of the Yeti myth - he tells us that '
In this case 'silly' stands for ... Somewhat Intelligent, Largely Laconic Yeti.
'
T
here's a moral or two in the fable of the penguins and the fox by J. Otto Seibold and Vivian Walsh. William Joyce gives us boy crimefighter Art Aimesworth wielding a newly invented '
silly ray
' against tulip-thieving Mamelukes. Neil Gaiman and Gahan Wilson's kid heroes hold their party in a spooky graveyard, where they end up playing '
cool games like blind corpse's bluff
'. Neil Wolverton's '
Jumpin' Jupiter
' takes part in an alliterative SF adventure, and from there the tales just keep on getting sillier. The last by Patrick McDonnell is all about a moon who's afraid of the dark and refuses to come out.
I
nterspersed among the silly stories are a cartoon whose scenes are out of order, Teddy Bear Picnic pictures with differences only '
super sleuths
' can find, and a
fill in the blanks
invitation to make up our own story. It's all super silly, but with tons of comic relief, and it is definitely not just for the kids!
