The Cat in the Hat reads (at first with his eyes shut) and explains to a small cat in a smaller hat why it's a good idea to keep at least one eye open. It's an exuberant celebration of all the different ways to read - 'You have to be a speedy reader 'cause there's so, so much to read!' - and all the amazing things to be learned from books, 'Young cat! If you keep your eyes open enough, oh, the stuff you will learn! The most wonderful stuff!' That Cat in the Hat sure has his own enthusiastic style of wisdom. And he can still always make me smile.
