is a children's devotional. Written in response to several states enacting laws designating a
moment of silence
every school day, this book is designed to give kids a God-centered focus for their thoughts in this minute.
E
ach segment is broken down into
days
, with a bible verse and short prayer that corresponds to the verse's theme. There is also space on each page for children to write their own thoughts. Some examples of the verses and prayers are: '
People can make all kinds of plans, but only the Lord's plan will happen
' (Proverbs 19:21). The prayer is: '
Dear God, ... I know your purpose is much more wonderful than any plans I may have. I will be happy with your decision. Today, Lord, please help me_____.
' Here's another: '
Your love must be real. Hate what is evil, Hold on to what is good
' (Romans 12:9). The prayer that accompanies it is: '
Dear God, I don't want to be a fake. Sometimes evil is disguised as good. Teach me to recognize the difference. I want to be on the right side. Today, Lord, please help me_____.

T
his is a nice
quickie
devotional for younger children, with helpful structure, in an easy translation for kids. It's a great idea, to give kids something to help focus their minds each morning. However, having worked with young girls (grades 3-6) in our church's AWANA programs for many years now, I feel that parents may be a bit optimistic if they expect kids to remember to take the book out of their desk and read it during that moment of silence. A better idea would be to use
My 60 Seconds
every morning at home, before leaving for school. What a way to begin the day!
