K
ids have a hard time waiting for anything, but Christmas seems to take an especially long time to arrive.
Is it Christmas yet, God?
pairs Jim Lewis's beautiful illustrations with short, engaging poems and Bible verses to help children who impatiently await this special holiday.
P
oems such as:
Christmas Lights
,
Nativity
,
Follow the Star
, and
Glitter!
cover the spiritual aspects of Christmas as well as its fun. My children, aged five and three, listened attentively to the entire book, asking questions and pointing out unique qualities in the drawings. Some of the poems are funny, some meaningful, and kids will enjoy the variety of subjects presented. My one criticism of the picture book is that the poems dealing with the Bible Christmas story are told out of order (poems of Christ's birth are presented before poems about Mary and Joseph going to Bethlehem), which might be confusing for some youngsters.
A
ll in all though,
Is it Christmas yet, God?
fills a need for parents desiring a spiritual book to read to and with children at Christmas time. My own kids found it delightful and will surely request to hear it again and again before the holidays are over.
