Its lead is cardsharp Lukan Gardova. Once heir to an ancient noble house, he fought a duel that damaged his family and estranged him from his father. Seven years later, his father's steward Shafia tracks him down to inform him that Lord Gardova has been murdered, and that the killer was searching for something. Gardova, a scholar, was obsessed with the Phaeron, who disappeared a thousand years before. Before he died, he wrote a note in his own blood - 'Lukan Saphrona Zandrusa'. This sends Lukas on a quest to the far off merchant city of Saphrona to find Zandrusa. He learns that Zandrusa is about to be executed for murder! Lukas partners with a young female thief, Flea, who helps him find a way to contact Zandrusa in her prison cell. Many trials and tribulations follow for Lukan and Flea, but they persevere. Lukan then partners with renowned thief Ashra, who saves them by opening a sorcerous gateway. After a bloodbath in the city, Lukan, Ashra and Flea take ship for Korlakov - and further adventures to follow.
