Ford's fantasy series starring kick-ass Necromancer/Enchanter/Abjurer Aelis de Lenti. In the first episode, she was assigned as Warden for remote Lone Pine village. She resides in a tower nearby. It took a while but Aelis won the respect of the villagers. She befriended local innkeeper Rus and his partner Martin, and encouraged young Pips' latent magical talent. She became very close to elfling Maurenia, and was helped by shapechanger Tun. She defeated a powerful enchanter and dealt with a Crypt's undead. But now the entire region is threatened by an army of undead that her actions have unleashed. Armed with a potent soap for the undead, Aelis, Maurenia and others head out to intercept anything that might come against the village. They win aid from a powerful ally, Rhunival, but what he gains in return hurts them deeply. Aelis continues to do her work, killing monsters, while desperately seeking to undo the harm done to her friend. Then fellow Wardens arrive with recall orders for her - a cliffhanger ending that leaves fans very keen to find out what comes next.
