In her Introduction to her picture book, Wombat and the Family Tree (aimed at ages four to eight), Marietta Apollonio tells us that 'Families come in all shapes and sizes' as she introduces a wisdom of wombats.

It all starts when young Wombat comes home from school to tell Nana he's been assigned a family tree poster project. He starts to gather stories, photos and inspiration from wombats near and far. Each of them has a 'special something of their own'.

As he works on the project, Wombat wonders what his own something is. As he struggles with this, he worries 'What if I don't have a something?' But as he crafts his family tree and helps with the family reunion, Wombat does find his own special something.

This charming story ends with a my Something Brainstorm that encourages young readers to explore their very own something(s).
