In the first Rip Through Time episode, Armstrong sent modern homicide detective Mallory Atkinson back in time to Victorian Scotland (in the body of housemaid Catriona Mitchell) after both were strangled in the same spot.

She found herself in the home of undertaker/medical examiner Dr. Duncan Gray in 1869 Edinburgh. Duncan lives with his widowed sister Isla. Mallory gradually adjusted to her new life, while trying to find out how to get back to her own time. She became embroiled in an investigation of the serial killer who attacked Catriona, still active in Edinburgh. Isla discovered her secret, which they also revealed to Duncan.

As The Poisoner's Ring opens, men are dying from poison, including the unpleasant aristocratic husband of Duncan's oldest (and estranged) sister Annis. She naturally comes under suspicion, and the family rallies to defend her, despite her prickly nature. Not unexpectedly, feelings grow between Duncan and Mallory, strained by the possibility of her return to her own life and time.

As we expect, Mallory solves the case, at great personal risk, and makes some intriguing new friends along the way. I'm curious as to where this engaging series will take her next.
