Ivy Lost and Found is the first in Cynthia Lord's Book Buddies series, aimed at ages six to nine, and with appealing black and white illustrations by Stephanie Graegin. Book Buddies are the leads in the series - toys that can be checked out of the library in the same way as books.

This episode is about Ivy. Her first memory is of Anne's birthday party, where the doll was given as a gift, and remained close to Anne afterwards - until she was exiled to a box in the attic where she slept for years.

Now an older Anne (a librarian) rediscovers Ivy and takes her to join story time. Once the children leave, the Book Buddies share their own tales and ask Ivy hers. They tell her that 'every borrowing is a new adventure' but she's not convinced.

Then Fern (whose parents have divorced and who lives in two houses) borrows Ivy, sharing her feelings with her as they play together. Ivy has an adventure (scary at times) and makes a new toy friend. She also learns that 'Being forgotten means you can be found again.'
