A
da and the Galaxies
(aimed at ages 4-8) is written by renowned physicist Alan Lightman in collaboration with Olga Pastuchiv, and brightly illustrated by Susanna Chapman (with help from the Hubble telescope).
Y
oung Ada loves the stars but lives in New York, where it's hard to see them. So she can't wait for a summer visit to her grandparents on an island in Maine,
'where the night sky is very dark and Ada can see lots of stars.'
I
n the daytime, they wander the island, kayak, and build a shell and moss fairy house, but Ada is impatient for darkness to fall. She's disappointed when fog stops stargazing until her Poobah shares photos of galaxies. That fills the evening until bedtime - when the fog breaks and Ada sees - and calls out to - countless stars.
T
his is the perfect picture book to introduce a young reader (and stargazer) to the universe we all live in.
